May 12, 2008- SENECA, Mo. – Stunned survivors picked through the little that was left of their communities Sunday after tornadoes tore across the Plains and South, killing at least 22 people in three states and leaving behind a trail of destruction and stories of loss. Storms later Sunday in North Carolina destroyed several mobile homes, and six people were slightly injured, said Patty McQuillan of the state police. And in South Carolina, a possible tornado damaged several homes, but no injuries were reported, said Charleston County spokeswoman Jennie Davis. In storm-weary Arkansas, a tornado caused significant damage in Stuttgart, but no one was seriously injured, said Weather Service meteorologist Joe Goudsward. Tornadoes killed 13 people in Arkansas on Feb. 5, and another seven were killed in an outbreak May 2. In between was freezing weather, persistent rain and river flooding that damaged homes and has slowed farmers in their planting. This has been one of the deadliest storm seasons in decades. I decided the entire thing is rigged anyways so I gave up on it. Today I started reading up on the bird flu and was totally shocked. The first thing I saw was 100 people dead in Indonesia. Now, having taken a bit of a break and coming back to this bird flu topic was quite an eye opener. I was totally overwhelmed.
As I was reading, it seems that this H5N1 thing is everywhere. It is not slowing down and is not stopping. Even after years of fighting this bird flu, it is still on the move. I sat back and thought, “Gee, it didn’t go away.” 
Somehow this struck me as an odd thought which made me wonder if I actually did think it would go away? This avian flu has been around for years, it is constantly refusing to leave no matter how many millions of birds are culled. It is changing and mutating. Every time we think okay, it is quiet, this mega flu starts to scream again.
I’m sorry, I am disturbed that there are 100 people dead out of 124 cases in Indonesia. That is a death rate of almost 80 percent. I rolled that number off my tongue several times…EIGHTY PERCENT death rate! It was not a pleasant sensation. Now what if this was a pandemic? There are six billion people (give or take a few) in the world and at 80 percent death rate if this went across the board with an 80 percent death rate (which it will not) it would be utter, total devastation.
Today was a start after a little break here for me. I’m back at this again. I do have to admit, it scared the heebie zeebies out of me when I started reading all the posts and articles on it. What also struck me was how easy it was for me to close my eyes and just pretend it had gone away. By throwing myself into the primary presidential elections, I did not have to watch the horror of this play out in front of me day by day. I think now I have a little better understanding of why people do not want to hear about it, do not want to acknowledge it as it is so easy to just close your eyes and pretend it doesn’t exist. Today was a wake up call for me when I read the bird flu reports. I just can’t imagine with the over whelming feeling I had today how bad it is going to be for people who are not prepared.

I had two clients stop in last week and both of them were scientists, one from Greece and the other one from Bolivia. I asked them if they were familiar with the H5N1 virus. Both of these ladies were a bit shocked when their psychic started talking to them about the H5N1. I simply pointed to my wall full of degrees and said I am a lot more then just a fortune tellerJ They both started to laugh and that is when they really opened up.
We got into a deep discussion about this bird flu virus. These two women are specialists on insect bugs and the spread of their illnesses. One of them is working on Dengue fever and monitoring its spread. She told me that the H5N1 is a considerable risk to the general population. It is an even greater risk since people are so unaware of it. We got into a lot of the scientific applications of the bird flu illness. She said the people that she works with believe it will just jump, fast and unexpectedly. I have to agree with this assessment as I believe it will just start and there will be no stopping it when it does.
The scientist from Greece showed genuine concern over the H5N1. She told me that she is going back to her country soon. She wants to try and raise alert levels there with the people. The Dengue Hemorrhagic form is her specialty. She thinks people need to know it is out of control right now. But she also wants her people to know about the bird flu and its possibilities. She considers H5N1 as one of the greatest risks to humanity along with global warming.
The Bolivia scientist shared her belief with me that when this bird flu does strike, it shall be so sudden that it will take the world by storm. She believes it is being down played, people are no where near prepared and it will be a nightmare out there. Upon returning back to her home country, she is going to let people there know about the bird flu and how to prepare for it.
We discussed the mutation of the virus, the possibility of treating the ground with some form of chemical inhibitor that may stop the virus at places birds meet, the over use of Tamiflu and the fact that this H5N1 virus is becoming drug resistant. We also had a discussion about the survivors from the Spanish pandemic in 1918 and subsequent pandemics. The one in the 1950’s was also a form of avian flu. Because of this, we all agreed that some of the people who survived that one may also survive this upcoming one. They may have more resistance even though the viruses are very different. There is a genetic code where some people are immune to these types of illnesses since they do not have the proper receptors for the bird flu virus to connect to their cells. Both of these scientists seemed very concerned about this H5N1 virus. They want to raise the level of people’s awareness and its implications. They both believe that the possible risks are not being presented properly to the public. They stressed this over and over again.
After hours of discussions, we reached the conclusions that people are in the dark, are not being properly informed, that this bird flu virus is very real and it is not going away any time soon. Trying to fight it with everything we have is a good preventative measure which gives people time to prepare. As they left, they both gave me a hug and told me I am in the wrong business. They even asked me to consider stepping up into their world of science. I said, “Nope, I like meeting people like you so I will stay right where I am. Besides I don’t like bugs.” lol.
